Back To The Basics

I don’t know if it’s because I am getting older or all the changes I have gone through in the last year, but I miss the basics.

I miss real conversations – not “just checking in” texts. I miss actual person-to-person dialogue about what’s really going on in each others lives.

I miss supportive talks discussing dreams for the future hoping that when it’s all said and done, you can laugh at how silly you were way back when.

It’s something that I have been feeling for quite some time now, but I hadn’t realized how much until Channing and I had a picnic in Central Park.

As we sat on the rain forest-themed blanket eating homemade pizza and champagne-infused gummy bears, I thought about how rare that moment was.

An uninterrupted conversation.

No ringing, dinging or buzzing.

Not even a light rain shower broke our concentration as we collected our thoughts about how we envisioned our lives.

About the careers we hoped to have and thanks to technology, they might not look the way we thought they would when we graduated in 2009.

And maybe, just maybe, we are doing exactly what we are supposed to be doing for ourselves by blogging our dreams.

I sure hope so.

Call me a purist, but I really miss pre-touchscreen days when communication actually got us in touch with one another.

Maybe I am asking for to much, but I’d really like to get back to the basics.
