Blogging Tips For A Newbie

I am new to blogging and I will be honest, some days, I just do not know what to write. But there are days when I just feel like I don’t know what I am doing at all. As much as I want this to be some type of documentation for my journey, I also want it to be an open forum for other women who are dealing with similar situations. But to do that, you of have to know what you want your blog to be. What it’s going to look like, feel like, be about, and how you hope to impact others lives. What is the short-term and long term goals? Gosh. I still haven’t figured that out for my life let alone this blog, but I am happy to say that I am working on it.

About two weeks ago, I met up with a group of writers and one offered to help me get my blog in order. Now usually, I would have pretended like I was going to take her help, but this time I actually did it. We met Wednesday and she was just a joy to speak with. Her outlook on her work and life is just so contagious and I am really happy that we met.

In addition to helping me figure out some branding ideas, she gave me some useful tips that I feel other bloggers could benefit from.

Her suggestions:

Be Confident: If you are anything like me, you are your worst critic. I obsess over every little detail even sharing this blog is a struggle because I want everything to be perfect. Truth is, it might not be perfect for a while, because practice makes perfect. The more I write, the better I will get and the same goes for you.

Educate Yourself: Let’s face it, we don’t know everything and that is fine. She reminded me that it is important to continuously educate yourself by reading any and everything. Develop your ideas and voice and share.

Think Long-term: It’s so easy to get caught up in the here and now, but it’s been my experience that it is easier to stay focused when you have something you are working towards. Think of a couple long term goals and don’t limit yourself.

Isn’t she awesome? Here are my suggestions:

Be fearless: Don’t be afraid to experiment on your blog with writing, photography and even the design. Though, I haven’t done much with the site, I have done everything myself and I am pretty impressed. YouTube has become my best friend because there is a tutorial for EVERYTHING!

Reach Out: As scary as it is to have others view your work, a friend or relative might be able to help you and in turn, yo might be giving them valuable experience for their dream. Why not accomplish your dreams together?

What advice would you give new bloggers? If you are a new blogger, did these suggestions help?
