Remember that show?
That’s who my fiancé said I looked like when I got dressed for our late Valentine’s Day celebration. We didn’t get a chance to celebrate because I was in Philly for my Breakfast at Tiffany’s bridal shower.
Let me just say that it was nothing I thought it would be and I loved every moment of it. It was just the distraction I needed before the wedding. It’s literally 10 days away. Screech!
Here’s the thing:
In my mind, I thought I would be willing to cook dinner for him after hopping on and off four trains. Yes, four.
I had some mushrooms in the fridge so I planned to make him the mushroom tacos he likes with a simple cabbage slaw. But, I was so exhausted, I fell asleep on the couch. I only woke up to eat dinner. Go figure.
The following week, we ventured to the Bronx for brunch at Havana Café. Yo, I swear I was Hispanic in another life. I love Hispanic food. Everything about it gets my taste buds excited and I’m crazy enough to believe that all food should have that effect.
Is it just me?
Granted, we had to wait two hours to see what all the fuss was about because of the two hour unlimited drink special, but it was well worth the wait. I had the Benedicto de Cangrejo (crab benedict). It came with a small arugula salad that was good, but I’m weird about mayo-based dressings so I scoffed it down so I wouldn’t think about it. He had a breakfast casserole that combined chorizo, potatoes, peppers, mozzarella and fried eggs. When it was placed in front of him, he was not thrilled by it’s size, but after two bites, he changed his mind.
While we waited, we walked along a, wait for it…. private beach in the neighborhood. Now, I know that New York is surrounded by water. I’m reminded every time the news or my favorite crime drama does a wide shot. But, I never thought we would randomly stumble upon one. Especially in the Bronx.
“You never looked at it on a map?” my fiancé asked.
Umm, no. Why would I ever need to do that?
I should explain that a main component of his job is to look at maps and he’s relatively good with geography. I’m not.
My lack of basic geography knowledge is the reason the show, Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego, was created in the 90’s. During the thirty minute show, viewers watched as two Acme agents tried to catch and stop the international thief as she jumped all over the world. The television show was a spin-off of a line of computer games, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego.
And while I might have the detective hat look down, I’d much rather globetrot to escape the normalcy of life rather then henchmen.
