I sing so put a singer on any rap song and I will sing the crap out of the chorus. I am not bragging, I am just saying.
But there is something so undeniable about the energy you feel when the beat drops to “Empire State of Mind.” You have no other option but to turn up and that is exactly what I did Tuesday night at the “Legends of the Summer” concert with Jay Z and Justin Timberlake.
You don’t have be from New York or even have visited that many times (I didn’t) to know exactly what AKeys and Hov are talking about when they say: Concrete jungle where dreams are made of/ There’s nothing you can’t do/Now you’re in New York/ These streets will make you feel brand new/ Big lights will inspire you in/Let’s hear it for New York.
Needless to say, I lost my mind when that song came on along with more than 40,000 other concertgoers. I jumped right out of my seat onto sore feet – I am pretty sure in the middle of a conversation. Oh well. That was my song since the first time that I heard it. But now, I guess it means a little bit more since I have set my sights on the city something the boyfriend noted after he saw how hype I was. *shrugs* It is what it what it is.
I was lucky enough to see the Brooklyn Boy when he came to Penn State my senior year so I knew it was going to be a good night. But, I had no idea that the concert was going to be THAT good. If you have never seen him in concert, it’s an absolute must. I wouldn’t consider myself a rap fan. I don’t buy rap albums and pretty much only listen to rap when it’s on the radio, but he is extremely talented and it shows at his concerts.
Oh, and I had no idea how talented the Tennessee Kid was. I knew he could sing, but he was literally doing it all. He was singing during his set, sometimes playing the piano and he even joined Jigga Man’s set multiple times with a guitar. Absolutely amazing!
There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe the high that I was on when I made it back to my apartment. Absolutely No Words.
It’s still hard to believe that I was able to witness the Legends of the Summer. But if you don’t believe me how amazing the concert was, check out this short video:
