One of the hardest things about moving, besides moving itself, is figuring out what’s around your new home.
It’s learning the streets. It’s knowing where to buy groceries and the freshest and cheapest produce. But more importantly, for those days that you don’t feel like cooking, what take-out place and restaurants have the best food.
Google helps, but sometimes you want to know more than just the directions and menu. And I don’t know about you, but I always take restaurant reviews with a grain of salt.
That’s why when I heard about my town’s Night Market, I was pumped. It was the first nearby event that I heard of and it would answer all my questions about food.
Y’all know I love that.
I had already visited the downtown area a couple times for groceries and dinner at an over-priced Mexican restaurant, but I had never been to the side that the event was on even though it was down the street.
I didn’t know exactly where it was so I followed the sound of the music in the distance and the smell of jerk chicken in the air. Man, they sure know how to make a pescatarian weak.
Tents for every restaurant lined both sides of the street with affordable food. There were also customer service representatives for local gyms, spas, waxing locations and even car maintenance.
Kids played and danced in the street while listening to what appeared to be a teenage-aged band, which was actually really good.
I can be such a worrier when it comes to what I am going to eat, but I was lucky enough to snag some fried calamari and fries from a Greek restaurant for just one ticket. Each ticket was about $5. I also bought two spring rolls, also for one ticket.
My love had a little bit of everything buying jerk chicken, a wing and chicken tender combo, and an Angus steak burger.
Dessert was a scrumptious berry shortcake from a local bakery. We ate like kings. Or, shall I say a king and queen. Hehe.
Needless to say, thanks to the Night Market, I definitely know some of the best places to buy food when I don’t feel like cooking.
