I really don’t want every post on this blog to be about my recent engagement, but this is what my life has become so I do hope you will all enjoy my excitement. Needless, to say, this post is about that, kind of.
Friday, I went to the fiancé’s (I still can’t believe that I get to write that word. Fiance) company holiday party and we had a blast. I had already met most of his coworkers and their spouses in February so I wasn’t nearly as nervous this time around.
In February, the company party included a Sixers game and an all-night dance session at the Xfinity Live Center. This time around, it was on the Spirit of Philadelphia, which I was a bit concerned about because the previous year really captured the essence and personality of his company. A boat ride seemed a bit stuffy for the group, but that didn’t hold the group back at all. They are such a live group and I enjoyed every minute of it from the couple that includes a party girl and laid back gent, to the really shy couple, to the young-old couple. I even got a kick out of the guy who was clearly enjoying himself too much that he didn’t even notice that he was was styling and profiling in my coat. Yup.
Everyone was so sweet and happy that the fiancé finally made the commitment. Apparently, after everyone met me in February, they have been giving him a hard time about proposing to me. They all told me stories about how nervous he was about doing it and even how long he has been planning it. Someone even informed the DJ on the boat about our recent engagement so all night, he kept giving us a shout out. It was really nice.
But as I sat there enjoying the moment, I couldn’t help but to think about the older company that was cutting up on the dance floor. Just looking at them, you could tell how much they were enjoying each others company. You could tell that was the norm for them and it was so cute. It didn’t matter that they weren’t the best dancers or that they were off beat. They were just enjoying it and that was so beautiful to me because I think a lot of couples forget to enjoy the moment.
I didn’t know it at the time, but that couple have been together for more than 30 years. They have three kids and are currently awaiting the arrival of their first grand child.
I also didn’t know that as much fun as the couple was having on the dance floor, the husband had two knee replacements and was still willing to dance with his wife.
I think that is so beautiful and I hope that me and the fiancé will take a page out of that couple’s book and never forget to enjoy the moment.
