There is an upside and downside to having a birthday on the fourth of July.
Upside: The entire country is celebrating your birthday along with you.
Downside: Everything is closed because the entire country is celebrating your birthday with you.
Because of this, I have never planned anything that would entail me and my significant other to go sit somewhere except this year. In the past, we have celebrated with a couple of surprise parties, but mostly we just chill and hop from one barbeque to another. Talk about lifting that planning burden off me.
This year, I wanted to do better and actually have something planned, get him a gift on time and really prove that I listen to him. Yes ladies, I am admitting that I have a problem with listening and he’s called me out on it a couple of times.
Saturday, I planned a nice spa day that he was in desperate need of. He literally is on call all day and barely gets a chance to unplug so I thought this would be just what the doctor ordered. And it was for the both of us.
In addition to two 50-minute massages at Tommi’s Salon and Spa, we both were pampered with a manicure and pedicure. The massages were divine and the mani-pedis was probably the best ones that I have ever had in my life. It was seriously that good and I don’t think I will ever go to those little neighborhood naileries again. The atmosphere, service and attention of the technicians were above my expectation and I would definitely return.
I also surprised him with a lunch date to The Good Dog Bar and Restaurant, which was featured on the popular food network show “Diners Drive-ins and Dives.”
Up until we celebrated his birthday, he was watching it non-stop so I just knew that he would love it. He did. We had the truffled cheese steak empanadas. I had the duck pot-pie. It was my first time eating duck and it was good. I still have some leftovers. That will be dinner tonight. He had some stuffed roasted chicken with the creamiest mash potatoes I have ever eaten with grilled asparagus. What an amazing day!
