Surprisingly, I Heart New York City

DSCN3049This weekend, I took a long-awaited trip to New York City and fell in love.

It’s so unexpected because in my mind, it has been this big bad place that kind of scared me. I am from Philly so you would think that I would gravitate to another city, but I always viewed New York City as a different kind of monster if that makes sense. I guess I thought it would be harder and more violent, which very well may be the case in some areas, but it was nice to see that it’s not like that everywhere. Or at least where my friend lives who was celebrating her six month anniversary in the city, which is why I went.

During the bus ride, I could hardly contain my excitement. It was finally happening. I was going to visit the city that I had recently decided to move to in hopes of furthering my career. But I had only visited the city about four times and never got a chance to physically see the city so it was important to view the city through new lens. And I am so happy that I did.

Our vision board party was a blast filled with a lot of twerking, pretty much straight tequila and such great conversation and company. All eight of us (all women) were open and honest about our personal and professional situations. I thought I would focus primarily on goals for this blog, but I realized there was more I wanted to accomplish for my life than I originally thought. The night ended with dinner and an awesome night out at a New York City club.

And to think the trip almost didn’t happen because of an upset stomach the night before. Then the day of, my bus driver was late and almost made me miss the train had I not sprinted down a flight of stairs, through a tunnel and up stairs (with my overstuffed suitcase), I would have definitely missed the train and I had to be on it to make the MegaBus on time.

In addition to having an absolute BLAST, I learned some valuable lessons such as:

Have Faith – When it looked like I wasn’t going to be able to go to New York because of that upset stomach and almost missing my train, I kept telling myself that I didn’t get better just to not be able to go and I was right!

The grass is and isn’t greener on the other side – It’s easy to look at someone else’s situation with envy, but you have to enjoy the journey and keep pushing to get there too.

Take a chance – I was reminded this when I shared some of the goals on my vision board. I didn’t want to tell anyone about this little old blog until one of the girls reminded me to take a chance.

Ralph Marston wrote “There are plenty of difficult obstacles in your path. Don’t allow yourself to become one of them.”

How was your weekend?
