Excuse me while I take in this amazing view from the 86th floor of The Empire State Building.
That’s where I took my mom when she came to visit me. No ice skating, again, but after seeing this view, we didn’t care.
Isn’t it just everything?
No lie, I would have stayed there all day if I could. The 360 degree view of New York City and parts of New Jersey was absolutely breathtaking and incredibly beautiful.
If there was ever a reason I needed to remind myself that changing environments is beneficial, this is definitely it.
I don’t know about you, but one of the first things that I notice about New York City are the sounds. As soon as I hop off the bus and trek to the subway station, I hear the yellow cabs whizzing by, drivers honking at other cars to go faster and sirens in the distance.
Those sounds, especially when I didn’t have a set route (or know where I was going for that matter), always served as proof that I made it to New York City.
But standing 1,050 feet above the city at The Empire State Building, those weren’t the sounds I noticed.
For maybe the first time in my life, I paid attention to the wind. I heard it whipping past my head, navigating through nearby buildings, and ever-so slightly rattling the gates around the observatory deck.
The shutter of camera lenses going off from families taking usies never sound so loud before.
Also, when I inhaled, the air smelled crisp and clean.
It was…refreshing, which might sound like a weird thing to say about air, but you just have to witness it for yourself.
It was truly something special.
And get this, it only took 13 months of construction to complete it in 1931. Isn’t that crazy?
