the last 15 hours before departure

Is it me or when something really good happens, I feel the need to do a grand exit?

That was me last Monday as I excitedly watched the time go by.

4:00: Three more hours
5:00: Two more hours
6:00: One more hour
7:00: It’s go time. I am out this jawn.

Where to?

Home so I can finish getting ready for my flight to Jamaica in the morning.

In my head, I was throwing down my smock and walking off with a cool stroll. You know the ones associated with pimps. But in reality, I was just walking quickly down the aisles to call the fiancé to see where he was so he could pick me up. He was getting a pedicure, which was seriously messing up my grand exit. Then I forgot that I wore a jacket that day so I had to go back. Not the grand exit I was hoping for.

7:30: I am home and in go-mode. I throw the vegetarian southwest rolls that we prepared the night before in the oven. I know I need to do my hair because I am in the wedding and as much as I love my twist-out, I know it’s going to look like the hair of those little troll dolls (remember those?) in that Jamaican heat. I already decided on a natural up-do, but the question is can I pull it off? I also still have to do something with these nails. I am trying to multitask and failing miserably because when I go to clean up my cuticles, I cut them up and am out of commission for about an hour and a half.

9:00: I finally eat, hop in the shower and immediately regret trying a new up-do style for my brother’s wedding the night before I have to leave. The style was easy enough, but my hair is thick like super thick and it’s dripping wet and I have to put it up into a sleek bun. I don’t know how that’s going to happen and since going natural, I have been a against blow dryers, but it has to be done. I rather sleek and cute than a frizz puff with some nicely twisted Kanekelon hair.

10:00:
This is harder than I thought so I am sitting in the living room watching the YouTube videos for more inspiration. Oh she put it like this…And pulled that there. Bam. I got it.

10:30: I don’t have it. I lied. This is not how it looks on the video.

11:00:
I got this I think to myself as I decide to mimic every movement the girl makes on the video. Stop. Run in the bathroom. Play. Watch the next step. Stop. Run in the bathroom and attempt that next step. Stop. Wait, is that my hair I see?

11:30: Start all over.

1:00: I finally finished my hair. It doesn’t look exactly like the style in the video, but it will definitely work.

Now about these nails. One coat of CND Stickey and two coats of Revlon Cheers. I could finish it off tonight, but if I do, will I get those pesky bubbles? Also, it’s easier to smudge and look a hot mess in the morning so I will stop here and put the last two coats on in the morning.

2:00: I lay down with my hands folded over my chest like I am about to pray. Umm, and I should probably do that anyway.

5:00: Our alarm goes off and just as I think about staying in the bed longer, I remember my nails are not done. I jump up, do my morning routine and finish my last two coats.

7:00: We are finally out the door to make our 10 a.m. flight. Luckily, we only live 10 minutes from the airport because we still have to drop the car off at the parking deck. Done.

8:00: Check in is done and there is surprisingly no line for McDonald’s so I will have the Egg white delight on a biscuit and ham on the side please.

9:00: I make a worried call to my aunt. She will be flying down on Wednesday and because it’s her first time flying, I want to make sure she has everything. I also run through a quick list of things she can and can’t bring on her carry-on.

9:40:
It’s really happening. We are boarding a plane to Montego Bay to see my brother get married. I send out a quick tweet, grabbed my carry-ons including my bridesmaids dress and rushed to my seat. I watched the ascension and immediately knocked out knowing in a couple hours, I will be beautiful weather and goofing off with my siblings at the resort and that makes ev’ryting a’right!
